Michael Imperioli was born on March 26, 1966, in Mount Vernon, New York, to his parents, Dan and Claire Imperioli, who were of Italian origin.

He grew up in a blue-collar neighborhood and studied at a nearby school. At an early age, he showed interest in acting.

After graduating from high school at Brewster in 1983, Imperioli first wanted to study a pre-medical program at the State University of New York.

But the night before he began college, he revealed his aspiration to be an actor for his parents.

At 17, he shifted to Manhattan’s East Village, where he applied to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for training in acting.

That is where he encountered John Ventimiglia, his future roommate and co-star in The Sopranos.

In fact, at the beginning of the 1990s, Imperioli was a lead singer of the jangle pop band Wild Carnation, but he decided to pursue acting.
