On a Thursday, the Supreme Court of India ordered a court in Dwarka to grant interim bail to senior Congress leader Pawan Khera.
Khera had been arrested earlier that day, on Wednesday, by the Assam Police at the Delhi airport.
The politician was arrested in relation to an FIR lodged against him for making remarks against Prime Minister Modi at a press conference.
The Supreme Court’s direction for interim bail means that Khera will be released from custody for now, pending further legal proceedings.

Pawan Khera: Congress Leader Arrest And Statement
Pawan Khera was arrested for his objectionable statement against PM Modi as he referred to him as “Narendra Gautamdas Modi.”
Khera also demanded a joint parliamentary committee investigation against the Gautam Adani Group, which ingited his case further.
Afterward, Samuel Changsan, a BJP member in Assam, reported Khera to the police. On Wednesday, an FIR was filed at the Haflong police station in Dima Hasao.
Complaints against the politician have also been filed in Uttar Pradesh. Khera was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
His charges included criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity based on religion or race, defamation, intentional insult intending to provoke a peace breach, and making statements that could lead to public mischief.
The Supreme Court granted interim bail to Khera and issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh and Assam states, where FIRs have been filed against him.

Pawan Khera holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi.
