Alexei Navalny Missing Update 2023
Representatives for Alexey Navalny, a detained Russian opposition leader whose whereabouts are unknown, announced on Monday that they have lost communication with him.
Navalny was reportedly being held in a penal colony some 150 miles east of Moscow.
After being found guilty of multiple offenses, including sponsoring extremist activities and founding an extremist community, Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in jail in August.
He was already serving an 11-and-a-half-year sentence in a high security jail for accusations that he doesn’t admit to, including fraud.
Navalny’s supporters contend that his detention and arrest are politically driven attempts to silence him when he criticizes Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Spokesman Kira Yarmysh said on X on Monday that attorneys had made multiple attempts to gain entry to the two prison colonies where Navalny, who has experienced significant health problems, is thought to be.
Yarmysh continued, “They were told that the 47-year-old was not at the IK-6 or IK-7 penal colonies.”
Yarmysh wrote, “On Friday and throughout today, neither IK-6 nor IK-7 responded to them,” noting that Navalny had not been seen or heard from for six days.
Navalny was formerly housed in the IK-6 prison colony, which is located east of Moscow.
Russian Opposition Leader Arrest Charge

Vladimir Putin announced on Friday that he will run for a second six-year term in the presidential election, and his disappearance coincides with the beginning of the campaign trail.
Leonid Volkov, a Navalny aide, stated on X that the timing was “100% direct manual political control from the Kremlin, 0% coincidence.”
He went on: “Putin knows exactly who his primary rival in these ‘elections’ is. Additionally, he wishes to ensure that Navalny’s voice is muffled.”
The Kremlin did not immediately provide a statement. To try and paint Navalny as politically insignificant, Putin and his spokesman make a point of never mentioning him by name.
He is allegedly treated the same as any other prisoner.
