The officer who died has been identified as Andres Vasquez-Lasso, 32, to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities reported that on Wednesday at 4:43 p.m., officers from the Eighth District went to a domestic-related call about a person holding a pistol in the city’s Gage Park neighborhood’s 5200 block of South Spaulding Avenue.
Later, according to Chicago Police Supt. David Brown, the caller, claimed that a guy was carrying a gun and chasing a woman down the street.
When police arrived, one group proceeded to a house’s front door, but the suspect was discovered on foot by a second squad car, according to officer.
The man, who was armed, started running as officers exited the squad vehicle, according to the authorities. Shots were fired at close range, according to Brown. Authorities claim that the cop was struck several times.
Later the officer shot back, striking the suspect in the forehead. The man was then taken in critical condition to a neighboring hospital.
The officer, according to Brown, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later declared dead.
Additionally, Brown stated that the investigation was still continuing while pointing out that body camera footage, ballistic evidence, and other videos were being examined.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is also looking into the incident’s use of force.

18-year-old Chicago resident Steven Montano has been identified as the suspect.
One felony count of illegal use of a weapon, one felony count of murder, one misdemeanor count of involving with reporting domestic violence, and one felony count of firing a weapon close to a school are the charges brought against him.
He is still in the hospital and is being watched by the authorities.
