Born on May 6, 2002, Angel Reese is a Randallstown, Maryland, native. She grew up with her parents, Angel and Michael Reese.
Her mother played basketball for UMBC and is a former professional Luxembourg player. On the other hand, her father played with Loyola Greyhounds and Boston College before turning pro.
She has a younger brother, Julian, who is also involved in basketball. Julian is a college basketball player for Maryland. Reese also has a stepbrother, Mikael Hopkins, a professional basketball for the Reggio Emilia of Italian Lega Basketball Serie A (LBA).
Growing up, She learned ballet, swimming and track, and basketball. LSU star played the point guard before going through two growth spurts in her freshman year of high school.
The talented basketballer went to St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. During her high school days, she was a varsity basketball player.
Reese and Nia Clouden were teammates at the beginning of their high school careers. Reese’s 11.1 points and 11 rebounds per game average as a rookie earned her a spot on The Baltimore Sun’s All-Metro first team.
In an overtime loss against Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in the High School Nationals semifinals, Reese had 20 points and 24 rebounds.
The shooting guard was an All-Metro First-team selection in her sophomore year. As a junior, the skilled athlete averaged 22.6 points and 19.3 rebounds in each game. She earned the All-Metro Player of the year title.
The Maryland native was rated as a five-star prospect by ESPN, the second-best player, and the best wing in the 2020 class.
On November 1, 2019, she chose Maryland over offers from prestigious universities, including USC, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Syracuse, to play collegiate basketball.
Reese rose to become the program’s highest-ranked recruit in history. She was recruited while she was in the seventh grade, and part of what drew her to the program was her friendship with head coach Brenda Frese.
She received third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press before enrolling at LSU in May 2022.
