Judges were informed that on April 7 last year, Ms. Dance discovered Archie unconscious at his Southend, Essex, home with a ligature over his head. He will be the subject of a two-day inquest on Tuesday in Chelmsford.

At the Royal London Hospital, which is situated in Whitechapel, east London, Archie was receiving treatment from medical professionals who thought he was brain-stem dead and advised against continuing life support.

Archie Battersbee was born to his parents, Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee.

After his parents tried every legal option to keep him in treatment, Archie suffered catastrophic brain damage and had mechanical ventilation removed on Saturday, August 6.

The courts have repeatedly ruled that Archie Battersbee had no chance of recovery and that stopping the treatment would be in his best interests. However, his parents launched a protracted media and legal Campaign to prevent Barts Health NHS Trust from removing him from the ventilator at the Royal London Hospital.

In April 2022, Archie was discovered at home with a ligature around his neck and was taken to the hospital. According to his parents, he was participating in a social media challenge.

His parents initially won a decision in the Court of Appeal that the High Court judge, Mrs. Justice Arbuthnot, should not have declared his brain stem dead without a formal test. 

Archie Battersbee Brain Damage Cause

According to Hollie Dance, his brain damage may have been caused by participating in an online challenge.

At a preliminary inquest hearing in November of last year, Essex’s senior coroner, Lincoln Brookes, stated that he had seen no evidence that Archie had participated in any online blackout challenges. However, he had been informed that Police had discovered messages on the child’s phone that showed a very depressed mood.

He asserted that the full inquest would cover Archie’s medical cause of *****, his mental state, and his intentions on April 7, 2022.

Ms. Dance claims that threatening WhatsApp messages sent to her son have been made public as part of the verification procedure before the inquest begins.
