Lynch, a bassist, together with Robin Lynn Macy, sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, and others formed the Dixie Chicks, well known today, in Dallas in 1988 after growing up on her grandfather’s ranch in Texas.

American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Emily Burns Strayer was a founding member of the country music group The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks.

In addition to the banjo and dobro, Strayer also plays the accordion, guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle, piano, and sitar. 

She only sang harmony and background vocals during her early days with The Chicks, but she later became the lead vocalist for the Court Yard Hounds. 

American musician Martha Elenor Maguire was a founding member of the country bluegrass pair Court Yard Hounds and the all-female alternative country band The Chicks, formerly known as “The Dixie Chicks.” 

Even as a teenager, she competed in national fiddle championships and earned awards. 

Laura Lynch Dies In Texas Car Accident

In 1989, Lynch formed the band with three other women, sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer among them.

The Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks, lost a founding member, Laura Lynch, on Friday in an automobile accident in El Paso, Texas, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to NPR and other sites. 

Her age was sixty-five. Not all of the crash’s specifics were immediately known. 

Lynch and three other ladies, including sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, formed the band in 1989, according to the band’s profile on Country Music Television. 

Before she left and was replaced by Natalie Maines, the original quartet released three albums together, becoming the present trio.

After learning of Lynch’s passing, the band took to social media to release a statement. 

The band had previously removed the divisive term “dixie” from its name in 2020 as the country came to terms with its history of racial injustice in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. 

Laura was a ray of sunshine. It read, “Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this sad time. Her contagious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band.”

Laura Lynch passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the age of 65 following an automobile accident.

Mick Lynch, a cousin of Lynch, told reporters that his cousin was on his way from El Paso, Texas, to Dell City, according to TMZ.

It was just after sunset when the crash happened, and she was on the highway.
