Arne Espeel Video: Goalkeeper Died Of Heart Attack After Saving A Penalty
A goalkeeper, unfortunately, died of a heart attack just seconds after successfully stopping a penalty.
The awful incident occurred on Saturday in Belgium when Arne Espeel, 25, competed for Winkel Sport B against Westrozebeke.
The stopper’s side was leading 2-1 when the opposition was awarded a penalty kick early in the second half. He correctly dove to avoid the penalty, which allowed him to keep the edge for his team.
But as the startled teammates and spectators watched, the footballer collapsed just after celebrating. Doctors rushed onto the pitch to save the star as emergency professionals gathered at the scene.
However, the hospital declared Espeel deceased. The match in the seventh tier was canceled.
The horrifying scenes were witnessed in dismay by Espeel’s parents and his brother Aaron, who was seated on Winkel Sport’s replacements bench.
Death Cause of Arne Espeel
Arne Espeel, a 25-year-old goalkeeper from Belgium competing for Winkel Sport B, died immediately after saving a penalty because unsuccessful efforts were made to revive him after he slumped on the field.
Emergency staff gave Espeel every opportunity to survive and even used a defibrillator on him, but he passed shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The game was held at the club’s home in Sint-Eloois-Winkel, West Flanders Province, Belgium.
They were participating in a match in the second provincial league of West Brabant when the tragedy occurred.
At the beginning of the second half, the away team was given a penalty, and Espeel made a great save but collapsed shortly after.
An autopsy is scheduled for today to ascertain the cause of death, which has not yet been established.
The goalkeeper, who accidentally missed a kick from 11 meters during the game, screamed in delight, collapsed on the ground, and after a few seconds, started to shake.
The athlete had a heart attack, but despite immediate medical assistance on the field and the arrival of the ambulance, the player could not be saved.
