Prof. Dr. Glorius joined the university in January 2013. Since then, she has taught human geography, primarily focusing on European migration research.

Before her current stint, Dr. Glorius worked at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg for 11 years and four months. She worked at the institution from October 1998 to January 2010.

From January 2010 to December 2012, the professor worked at Leipzig City.

According to her biography on the Chemnitz University of Technology’s official website, Birgit Glorius’ research,

“focuses on the processability of migration and its effects on areas of origin and arrival, on transnationalism as well as on local constellations of refugee reception, the reactions of the receiving community, and local-regional policy approaches to integration and participation.”

She primarily researches the Western Balkans, East Central Europe, and East Germany.

Besides her teaching job and research work, Dr. Glorius serves as the co-editor of Z’Flucht and the head of the BAMF Research Centre’s scientific advisory board.

“Refugees in rural regions of Germany (Studies on Migration and Integration” is the recent research paper of Professor Dr. Glorius.

She also published a comparative Population Studies paper about Local Choice and Secondary Movements: A Comparison of the Destinations Luxembourg and Germany from the Perspective of Forced Migrants.

She also wrote an article titled, “What can we learn from the German experience of hosting post-2015 refugees for supporting refugees from Ukraine?” for COPOCS Blog.
