According to a tweet from Sesame Workshop on Sunday night, Bob McGrath, a beloved member of the Sesame Street family for more than 50 years, passed away.

He joined the Sesame Street cast as a friendly neighbor of Bob Johnson when the show first aired in 1969. In 2017, he made his last appearance on the program. He was capping off a nearly five-decade career on Sesame Street.

In the Chicago region, he frequently performed, singing well-known show tunes, including “Rubber Duckie,” “People in Your Neighborhood,” “Bein’ Green,” “Sing, Sing a Song,” and the program’s famous theme song.
