During the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season, he was added at the last minute to the Hurricanes squad for Round 7, as announced by the team management.

In early April, there was a significant development involving Cam Roigard, a former speedway driver, who is now being considered for the All Blacks rugby team.

Roigard’s interests will converge when the Hurricanes face off against the Western Force at Palmerston North’s Central Energy Trust Arena on Sunday.

Still, interestingly, it is the only track in the North Island where Roigard never had the opportunity to race during his previous career as a saloon driver.

Despite his limited appearances for the Hurricanes in the previous year, Roigard’s immense potential did not go unnoticed by the All Blacks selectors.

Rugby: Who Are Cam Roigard Parents Dave And Lisa?

Dave and Lisa Roigard are Cam Roigard’s parents. Cam comes from a family with a Speedway background, with Cam also being a former Speedway driver.

His father, Dave Roigard, was a former Waikato champion with three decades of racing history.

Dave began as a crew member for Geoff Fletcher, a former New Zealand champion.

Over time, he had the opportunity to transition from being part of the crew to becoming a driver.

For around five years leading up to the news article, he competed in super stocks before transitioning to the saloon class due to age-related considerations.

Given Dave’s involvement in Speedway, it was natural for his sons to follow in his footsteps.

Both Stefan and Cam started their racing careers in mini stocks, with Stefan eventually progressing to the saloon grade when he became eligible.

With Dave stepping back, Stefan had the opportunity to finish the season in his father’s car, allowing Cam to move up to the saloon class using his brother’s car.

In 2021, Cam stepped into the world of Rugby. He explained that his goal was always to pursue rugby as a full-time profession with the Hurricanes.

Despite remaining actively involved in speedway racing and assisting his brother as part of the crew, he made the decision to retire from speedway.

The inherent risks of injuries in Speedway and the financial demands of motorsports made it impractical for him to pursue a professional career in that field.

While still racing, rugby remained his primary focus and aspiration for a sustainable career.

While balancing his involvement in rugby and speedway, Roigard’s path took a turn when he received an opportunity to join the Hurricanes in 2021.

He received this chance as an injury replacement for Jamie Booth, who had suffered a leg injury.

Initially, he anticipated participating in the team’s preseason training only, but he stayed with the Hurricanes for the entire season.

His dedication and performance led to him securing a full-time contract for 2022, and since then, he has continued to thrive in his rugby career.
