Biography of Mark Drakeford
Mark lived in west Wales his entire life before relocating to Cardiff more than 30 years ago. He has since resided in Cardiff’s Pontcanna neighborhood.
He served as a professor of Social Policy and Applied Social Sciences at Cardiff University and was a former probation officer, adolescent justice worker, and Barnardos project director in Ely and Caerau.
Mark has formerly taught at Swansea University.
Mark served as a Labour councilor on South Glamorgan County Council in the 1980s and 1990s, focusing on educational concerns, notably Welsh-medium instruction.
He served as the Welsh Government’s health and social policy adviser to the Cabinet from 2000 to 2010, and then served as the head of the First Minister’s political office.
He has been familiar with Cardiff West for 40 years. In May 2011, Mark was elected to represent Cardiff West in the Assembly.
