Clarence Thomas is an American jurist, now serving as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Former President George H. W. Bush nominated him to succeed Thurgood Marshall, and he has served since 1991.

Since Anthony Kennedy’s retirement in 2018, Thomas has been the court’s longest-serving member, its oldest member since Stephen Breyer’s retirement in 2022, and the second African American to hold that position.

Clarence Thomas Illness: Is He Sick Now?

The U.S. Supreme Court associates justice is healthy and well. Clarence Thomas isn’t sick now. At least there have been no reports related to his illness.

HOwever, on 21 March 2022, the associate justice was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington after he experienced flu-like symptoms.

The spokesperson of the Supreme Court, Patricia McCabe, didn’t immediately respond to an inquiry for more information about Justice Thomas’s condition. Later he confirmed that Thomas’ condition was not related to the coronavirus.

The Georgia native underwent different tests and was diagnosed with an infection. The Supreme Court’s press release disclosed that Thomas was treated with intravenous antibiotics.

The court’s public information office also clarified that it wasn’t a Covid-19 infection.

“His symptoms have subsided, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be discharged from the hospital within a day or two,” the press release further disclosed.

It was reported that Justice Thomas would participate in considering and discussing any cases for which he is not present based on the transcripts, briefs, and audio of the oral arguments.

The Supreme Court confirmed that Justice Clarence was discharged on 25 March 2022.

All of the judges had been vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19. The New York Times report stated that at least two justices contracted the virus. According to the court protocol, the justices are regularly tested for the virus.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been making headlines recently for regularly accepting lavish gifts from a billionaire friend.

The judge said that colleagues and other judiciary members had advised him that his lavish trips, which were arranged for by wealthy friends, were considered personal hospitality and didn’t have to be disclosed.

ProPublica reported that Justice Clarence Thomas accepted trips around the globe for over two decades. His trips include travel on private jets and superyachts.

A wealthy Dallas business executive Harlan Crow reportedly financed his trips.

More than 24 hours after the report, Thomas shared a statement on the court’s public information office.

He said Harlan and Kathy Crow are his dearest friends and have known each other for a long time. “As friends do, we have joined them on several family trips during the more than quarter century friendship,” the justice stated.

Thomas continued by saying that he was informed he did not need to record “this sort of personal hospitality” and that he would abide by the new Judicial Conference rules in the future.

Democrats were upset by the report, and some demanded Justice Thomas resign. Republicans either defended Thomas’s freedom to travel with friends or remained silent.
