Lemon co-hosted the revamped show, CNN This Morning, with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins.
He expressed shock at the termination, stating that he had not been informed directly and had no indication that he would be unable to continue working at the network, despite his 17-year tenure.
According to CNN, Lemon was offered a meeting with management but released a statement on Twitter instead.
The chairman of CNN, Chris Licht, announced that Don and CNN had parted ways and that Lemon would always be a part of the CNN family, thanking him for his contributions over the past 17 years.
Licht also confirmed that CNN This Morning would continue despite struggling with ratings.
In February, Lemon was briefly taken off-air for remarks he made about Nikki Haley, described as “upsetting, unacceptable, and unfair to his co-hosts.”
Lemon apologized for the comments and understood why people found them misguided.
Additionally, Variety recently published a report alleging that Lemon engaged in misogyny towards female coworkers, but he denied the allegations.
