He spent the previous three years as the Gannon director of strength and conditioning, professional liaison, and defensive line coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator and linebacker coach over the offseason.

The Brooklyn, New York, native’s prior work as Gannon’s professional liaison has paid off, leading to opportunities for several former student-athletes at the professional level.

Jermaine suffered a heart attack on Sunday, August 13, and died suddenly. He leaves behind a lovely 2-month-old baby girl named Maya and a newlywed wife named Olivia. 

He leaves a vast legacy of people who have all been touched by his compassion and kindness.

According to his family, Jermaine Mitchell, a father of one from Brooklyn, New York, and an assistant football coach for Allegheny College passed away after a heart attack. 

In February 2021, Jermaine Mitchell returned to his alma mater (Allegheny College), where he worked as an assistant coach. 

He takes with him a plethora of coaching knowledge amassed over ten years when he returns to Meadville. 

The in-issue person just finished a four-year stint as an assistant at Gannon University, a school connected to the Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). 

Family Mourns His Loss

Tragically, a former offensive lineman passed away, and his family is devastated by his sudden and unfortunate death. 

According to his family, Jermaine Mitchell, a father of one from Brooklyn, New York, and an assistant football coach for Allegheny College passed away after a heart attack. 

During the 2011 and 2012 seasons, he worked as the defensive line coach and video coordinator at Marietta College to start his coaching career.

From 2007 to 2010, Mitchell started all four years at Allegheny (Pa.) College. As a senior, he was a member of a team that ranked fourth nationally in rushing defense.

After his last season, his 34 tackles and four sacks earned him a spot on the second team for the conference.

2011 Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Allegheny College. In 2014, he completed a master’s program in strategic leadership at the University of Charleston.

Their duties included working with the defensive line and acting as an assistant run game coordinator. 

He also took on the team’s Director of Strength & Conditioning and Pro Liaison responsibilities. 

Before joining Erie, Mitchell spent two years as an assistant coach at Charleston (W. Va.), a Division II school.
