The Cork City club broke the news of David Saunders’ untimely death. While paying tribute, the club wrote, “Everyone at Cork City FC is devastated by the death of amputee soccer player David Saunders.”
“At this terrible time, our thoughts are with David’s family and friends. David, please rest in peace. One of our own,” added the club.
The club published the tribute on social media on Monday (24 April 2023).
It has been reported that the late footballer was diagnosed with advanced sarcoma for the third time earlier this year. He battled the nasty disease. It looks like the amputee soccer player’s death cause is related to his illness.
The Cork City star was capped for Ireland (or the international amputee side) thirty-eight times. He also worked as a teacher.
Irish Amputee Football Association also tweeted saying they are devastated to learn that one of their warriors has tragically passed away.
The association added, “Anyone who had the honor of meeting David Saunders could not help but be inspired by the player and gentleman he was.”
The Irish Amputee Football Association concluded the tweet after sending their thought and prayer to the late player’s family, friends, and relatives.

David Saunders was a talented amputee football player. The Cork City star athlete was born in Ireland. David Saunders was 40 years old at the time of his death.
According to his GoFundMe page, David Saunders overcame his cancer battle twice as a young boy. He lost one of his legs while battling the disease.
Even so, the player continued to remain positive and lived as a cancer-free person for 26 years. He achieved a lot during that period.
The representative for the Amputee Football Association was diagnosed with the same disease earlier this year.

David Saunders leaves behind his young family, which includes his wife, Anne Marie McGrath, and his two young kids – Jack and Aoibhin.
While Jack Saunders is 4 years old, Aoibhin is 2 years old.
David asked for help before his death. As a father and husband, Saunders wanted to do his best for his family.
His note reads, “As a husband and father, I want to do all possible to ensure that my young family is provided for when I’m gone, and with that in mind, I’m asking for your assistance.”
“Any donation, no matter little or big, would be highly appreciated and would help to decrease the financial toll that cancer leaves behind,” added David Saunders
