In 2011, Breen won the WRC Academy Cup after winning his maiden race at the Rallye Deutschland and clinching the title with a victory at the Wales Rally GB.
The Academy championship came down to the last stage, with Breen and Estonian rally driver Egon Kaur finishing the season deadlocked on 111 points. Based on stage victories, Breen ultimately won, 39 to 14.

Rally driver Craig Breen was killed in a crash when his vehicle veered off the road during a test before a World Championship competition in Croatia.
According to his squad, rally racer Craig was killed in an accident on Thursday while taking part in a test event before a World Championship Race in Croatia.
The 33-year-old Irish driver’s *****, which was blamed on “skidding off track,” is currently being thoroughly investigated by Police, according to Daniel Akin, president of the Croatia Rally’s organizing committee.
Hyundai Motorsport stated it was “deeply saddened to confirm” Breen’s passing “following an accident during the pre-event test” for the Croatia Rally.
The co-driver, James Fulton, “was unharmed in the incident,” the team said.
Hyundai Motorsport extends its deepest sympathies to Craig’s loved ones, friends, and devoted followers. At this moment, Hyundai Motorsport will not comment further.
Since 2009, Breen has participated in World Rally Championship competitions for several teams. The Croatian tournament was slated to begin the following week.

Craig Breen was born to his parents on 2nd February 1990. Craig’s Father was Ray Breen, a national champion in Irish rallying.
Craig began karting in Ireland in 1999 with the help of his Father. He started rallying in 2007 and paired it with European karting obligations in 2008.
His mother’s name is Jackie Breen. There is no additional information on his mother about her professional or personal life, besides her identity.
