After it was discovered that David had been reported to the police for nine crimes, including rape claims, between 2000 & 2021, The Met issued an apology.

Carrick acknowledged raping nine women—some repeatedly over months or years—and using violence in several offenses that would have physically hurt them.
Carrick acknowledged committing false imprisonment crimes after repeatedly forcing one of his victims into a small cupboard beneath his staircase.
The Met terminated Carrick’s salary after his initial guilty pleas and started an expedited misconduct procedure; a hearing is scheduled for this Tuesday.

“Carrick occupied a post where he was tasked with the obligation of protecting the public, but yet over 17 years, in his private life, he did the exact reverse,” said Jaswant Narwal, the head crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service.
“This man sexually abused and raped women and constantly humiliated and degraded them.
As time passed, his offense became more serious as he grew more confident and convinced he would get away with it.
The specifics of David Carrick’s actions are appalling, according to Det Ch Insp Iain Moor of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, who spoke outside of court.
“I imagine many will be horrified and repulsed by his actions, but I hope the victims and the general public are comforted that no one is above the law and that the Police Service will obstinately pursue those offenders who target women in this manner,” the author wrote.
