University of Virginia student who was shot & murdered on campus Sunday was Devin Chandler, a graduate of Hough High.

According to a prosecutor, Devin Chandler was tragically shot while sleeping when he and other University of Virginia classmates were riding a bus back to campus following a field trip.

James Hingeley, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Albemarle County, added that a witness claimed that the gunman, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., appeared to be aiming at “particular persons” and “not aimlessly firing.” 

According to N.B.C. News reporting, Jones made his first court appearance on Wednesday via video from jail.

Devin Chandler Suspect: Christopher Darnell Jones Jr Arrested

After Jones and a handful of his classmates returned to campus from a field trip to watch a play in Washington, Jones is the suspect who opened Fire on five people, killing three of them late Sunday night. 

Chandler, a 2020 Hough High School alumnus and former Huntersville resident, was one of the three deceased.

Chandler was a junior on the Virginia football team, just like the other two people killed on Sunday night, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry.

According to The Washington Post, Jones has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, five counts of using a firearm during the commission of a crime, and three counts of second-degree ******.

Jones’ subsequent court date is planned for December 8; no bond was set on Wednesday. Chandler served as a Cavaliers receiver. university virginia ********

After hearing of the tragic ******** on Monday, stories of Chandler’s “infectious smile” and the enthusiasm with which he lived his life were widely shared around the nation, from Virginia to North Carolina.

The Suspect Was Once On The Football Team And Told That He Had A Gun

University Police circulated a photo of Jones throughout the search and advised people not to approach him because they believed he was “armed and dangerous.”

The same image can be found on Jones’ profile in the 2018 football roster for the Virginia Cavaliers. According to his profile, he didn’t play any games that year.

His mother, Margo Ellis, whose name appears in public records, claimed in a phone conversation on Monday that her son had lived with his grandmother.

Since he was 16 & that she was unaware of his whereabouts or any potential aggravating factors.

According to officials, Jones had previously come to the attention of school administrators.
