Jean Todt was born in Pierrefort, France, on February 25, 1946. After completing high school, he studied at the Paris-based Ecoles des Cadres School of Economics and Business.
He started his career as a rally co-driver after being fascinated by motorsports.
He debuted as the co-driver to Guy Chasseuil and later worked with big names such as Jean-Pierre Nicolas, Hannu Mikkola, Rauno Aaltonen, Ove Andersson, and Guy Fréquelin.
Todt retired from competitive co-driving in 1981 and was soon appointed the Director of Racing for Peugeot.
His capabilities as an organizer and strategist led him to be the mastermind behind the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, Peugeot 405 Turbo 16, and Peugeot 905.
He left Peugeot in 1993 and became the General Manager of Scuderia Ferrari from 1994 to 2007.
