The young Emmanuel Macron later received his education at Providence, a Jesuit institution, where he developed a spirit of discipline and a desire to be open to the outside world.

In December 2021, Emmanuel Macron was criticized by the Muslim community in France. The president has often come under scrutiny for his religious beliefs several times.

In 2018, the French politician found himself in hot water after he expressed his wish to repair church-state ties. He was even accused of threatening France’s tradition of secularism.

As reported by Express, in a meeting of bishops, Mr. Macron said he hoped to repair relations with the Church via a dialogue of truth.

He explained, “A president of the French Republic, who doesn’t have interests in the Church and its Catholics, would be failing in his duties.”

However, the president came under fire for saying it. The former socialist prime minister Manuel Valls stated, “Secularism is France.”

Olivier Faure, a socialist, continued, “Secularism is the gem in our crown. A Republican president ought to be protecting that.

Jean-Luc Melenchon, a well-known Marxist, also tweeted: “Macron in full-on metaphysical madness. Outrageous. One anticipates a president but gets a little priest.”

Gérard Collomb, the city of Paris’s then-interior minister, backed Mr. Macron’s comment.

He explained: “What he’s saying is that humans are searching for absolute values, spirituality, and meaning in life in addition to the worldly world.

“It may have a new tone, but it in no way does it break from the great tradition of secularism,” Collomb added.
