Faruk Shaikh was an acclaimed Indian Actor, television presenter, and philanthropist. 

His notable career spanned from 1973 to 1993 in Hindi films and from 1988 to 2002 on television. After a brief hiatus, Faruk returned to the film industry in 2008 and continued acting until his untimely demise on December 28, 2013. 

Shaikh made significant contributions to Parallel Cinema, also known as the New Indian Cinema, collaborating with renowned directors such as Satyajit Ray, Sai Paranjpye, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Ayan Mukherjee, and Ketan Mehta.

In recognition of his exceptional talent, Shaikh received the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2010 for his remarkable performance in Lahore.

Faruk Shaikh passed away in the early hours of December 28, 2013, in Dubai, where he was vacationing with his family.

A funeral service was held on December 30, 2013, at the Millat Nagar Andheri Mosque in Mumbai, attended by numerous notable personalities, including Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. Shaikh was laid to rest in the Muslim Qabristan in Four Bungalows, Andheri West, with his grave near his mother’s.

Shaikh was 65 years old and in Dubai for a concert at his demise.

His last appearance in a Bollywood film was in “Club 60.” Sarika, his co-star in the movie, expressed her shock at his sudden passing, as he appeared to be in good health during their recent meeting. They had even made plans to meet again in the future.

Shaikh began his career in 1973 with the film “Garm Hava.” He became renowned for his remarkable performances in movies such as “Shatranj Ke Khiladi,” “Chashme Buddoor,” “Kissi Se Na Kehna,” and “Noorie.”

His final film appearance was in “Club 60” Before that, he portrayed the role of a Father to Ranbir Kapoor in “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.” 

Additionally, Shaikh gained popularity as the host of the popular Zee TV show “Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai,” where he conducted interviews with numerous Bollywood celebrities.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences, stating that although he had only met Shaikh once and did not know him well, the encounter left a profound impression.

During their recent meeting, Sarika, his co-star in “Club 60,” expressed her shock as Shaikh appeared healthy and in good spirits. She praised his exceptional acting skills and emphasized his qualities as a great man and a true gentleman.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan remembered Shaikh as a true gentleman and a wonderful colleague, expressing his sadness at the news. 

Shekhar Kapur regretted that he had discussed politics instead of films during their last conversation, wishing they had talked about their shared love for the art.
