In recognition of his exceptional talent, Shaikh received the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2010 for his remarkable performance in Lahore.

A funeral service was held on December 30, 2013, at the Millat Nagar Andheri Mosque in Mumbai, attended by numerous notable personalities, including Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. Shaikh was laid to rest in the Muslim Qabristan in Four Bungalows, Andheri West, with his grave near his mother’s.

Shaikh was 65 years old and in Dubai for a concert at his demise.

His last appearance in a Bollywood film was in “Club 60.” Sarika, his co-star in the movie, expressed her shock at his sudden passing, as he appeared to be in good health during their recent meeting. They had even made plans to meet again in the future.

Shekhar Kapur regretted that he had discussed politics instead of films during their last conversation, wishing they had talked about their shared love for the art.
