Leaked Footage Was Suspected To Be From Changing Room

In addition to the IP camera videos already in circulation, many people were shocked the footage was from changing room.

Suspicions were raised on 7 March that videos shot in the plastic surgery clinic’s changing room and ECG room (where one must remove their top) had also been leaked.

The clinic was investigated by the Police on-site to see if the dressing room in the clinic’s questionable cosmetic plastic surgery center was the same as the place in the leaked footage.

The authorities informed the public that they collected evidence to assess the damage. Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency also cooperates with the Ministry of Gender Equality and the Korea Communications Standard Commission to block the further distribution of the videos.

Moreover, the patient’s consent allows video recording in the treatment and operating rooms. It is also to prevent medical accidents. However, recording videos in the dressing/changing room is strictly and legally prohibited.

The clinic has also responded to the suspicion and said the dressing room has a separate, closed area, and female patients are informed about it if needed.

How Did The Gangnam Plastic Surgery IP Cam Footage Leak? What Is An IP Camera?

A digital security camera that transmits data via an IP network is an internet protocol (IP) camera. These cameras do not require a recording device but merely the Internet, making them easier to hack into.

As for CCTV (Closed-circuit Television) cameras, only those with camera equipment can view the recorded material as CCTVs are not connected to the outside Internet. But IP cameras are Internet-connected to devices.

They are susceptible to hacking and data leaks. There is likely to be a hacker behind the case. But let’s wait and see what further investigations will reveal in the coming days.
