Although Santos never acknowledged having a brain tumor or undergoing radiation treatment again, he did recount his COVID survival story several times throughout his first failed Campaign.

Santos claimed he was transferred by ambulance to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, where he was placed on a stretcher and spent about five hours in a “plastic bubble” with an “air filter” since the hospital had run out of isolation rooms.

He stated that he had a chest X-ray, which came back clean. Santos noted that he was then swabbed for COVID-19 and obtained a positive test on March 14.

He claimed he had a high temperature for days and was hallucinating and disoriented.

Goldman declined to comment on whether Santos’ status in Congress should be disputed in an interview with Vox. “In my perspective, the critical question is not whether George Santos should be a member of Congress.

The more urgent question is whether Kevin McCarthy and the Republican leadership believe George Santos deserves to be elected to Congress.”

Kevin Owen McCarthy is a U.S. politician who has served as the House Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019.

McCarthy relies on Santos almost as much as Santos depends on McCarthy. The Republican Leader is facing a revolt from hard-right Republicans opposed to his becoming House Speaker in January.
