However, in September 2021, Goh Jin Wei surprised many by announcing her retirement from professional badminton through a YouTube video. Citing health reasons, she mentioned her previous colectomy surgery in 2019 as a contributing factor. 

Despite her retirement, Goh Jin Wei returned to professional badminton shortly after, signing a three-year contract with the Kuala Lumpur Racquet Club as an independent player on January 6, 2022. 

She emphasized that due to her ongoing health issues, she couldn’t fully commit as a player with the national team.

In 2017, she secured a bronze medal in the singles category, reaching the semifinals but losing to Han Yue. Wei also participated in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, where she performed excellently.
