El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen passed away on 17 January 2023. The city of El Paso took to Twitter to announce the heartbreaking news on Tuesday afternoon.
They wrote the city of El Paso is saddened to reveal the demise of the longtime Police Chief Greg Allen.
The cause of Allen’s ***** has not been disclosed. But, as reported by KTSM, Greg had been in the hospital recovering from a medical procedure.
Following the tragedy, tributes have been pouring all over the media. El Paso Fire Department shared a heartfelt message.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Chief Allen’s loved ones and our brothers and sisters in the El Paso Police Department,” the Fire department wrote in a tweet.
They also thanked the late personality for his dedication to the community, wisdom and camaraderie. “May you rest in peace, Sir,” they added.
Likewise, city manager Tommy Gonzalez expressed his sadness and said it was heartbreaking for them.
Greg Allen Career Details
Greg Allen was born in the early 1950s. He served in various positions (patrol officers, sergeant, lieutenant, deputy chief, etc.) during his 40 years of stint in the department.
He worked in the Tactical Section and SWAT for several years, holding the positions of field officer and supervisor. He was the first and only full-time SWAT Unit supervisor.
Allen received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Texas at El Paso, where he graduated in 1975.
He received honorary membership into the El Paso Boxing and Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 1995.
For four years in a row, from 2010 to 2013, El Paso received the title of “The Safest Large City” in the United States.
Greg’s administration wasn’t without controversy. He addressed Black Lives Matter as a “radical hate group” in 2016.
