Habib Shamel is an Afghan national who made headlines on the internet following the news of stabbing a woman came into the media prominence.
Shamel appeared before a Belfast court charged with the murder of a woman in Limerick city. Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard Shamel had been in Ireland since October 2020.
Not only that, but he even had applied for asylum. When asked whether Habib understood the charge against him, he assured through an interpreter that he did.

At the time of this post, Habib Shamel is in custody. He allegedly stabbed Geila Ibram. Appearing at Belfast Magistrates Court by video link from custody and speaking through a translator, Shamel assured that he understood the charge against him, accusing him of the killing of Geila on April 4.
A detective told the court Shamel considered he could connect Shamel, of no fixed address, to the charge, adding that Police opposed bail due to the danger of flight and the alleged murderer posing a real danger to public safety.
For your information, Shamel arrived in Dublin from Afghanistan in October 2020. Shamel was remanded in custody and will appear in court again via video link on May 2, 2023.

Habib Shamel Charged for Geila Ibram Death
Habib Shamel, aged 33, is accused of murdering Geila Ibram, aged 27, at an apartment block in Limerick city.
The lady was found dead in an apartment block in Limerick city on Tuesday afternoon. Later, Shamel appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court charged with stabbing a lady to death in the Republic of Ireland.
Ibram, originally from Romania, was found in an apartment block in Limerick city on Tuesday afternoon. So, Shamel was arrested from the Malone area of south Belfast on Thursday.
The court heard Habib was seen on CCTV on the morning of the killing arranging a sexual exchange with the victim. He was then seen arriving at the victim’s place at 13:28 local time, leaving just over a minute later.
Reportedly, Shamel stabbed Ibram multiple times in the neck, face and abdomen in a frenzied attack. Also, Shamel injured his hand in the attack and went to a hospital in Limerick.
The court also reported that Shamel left all his identification in Limerick and went north on a bus with a companion.
On the other side, Shamel’s legal team said that he should be granted bail, telling the court that the prison service would be unable to adapt his religious requests and that there were problems with his mental health.

Geila Ibram was a 27-year-old lady from Romania found in an apartment block in Limerick city on Tuesday afternoon. There are not many details regarding the murdered lady’s personal life.
