Half Moon Bay Shootings have been a heartbreaking tragedy for the people of the town, as seven dead and one was critically injured at HMB.

On Monday, seven individuals were killed in a shooting in Half Moon Bay. The culprit, 67-year-old Chunli Zhao of Half Moon Bay, was recognized and apprehended.

The sheriff’s office said four people were deceased at a nursery in the 12700 block of Cabrillo Highway at about 2:22 pm. Another victim was sent to Stanford Medical Center with potentially fatal injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, three more victims were discovered dead at another nursery nearby shortly after that finding.

Half Moon Bay Shooting: Where Is The Suspect Chunli Zhao Now? 

Authorities recognized Zhao Chunli, 67, of Half Moon Bay, as the suspect. 

He was apprehended without incident around 4:40 pm in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office substation in Half Moon Bay, according to the sheriff’s office. His automobile contained a semi-automatic weapon.

According to Corpus, Zhao lives in Half Moon Bay and is thought to have a husband.

He was apprehended in the Half Moon Bay Substation parking lot more than two hours after the shooting. Police were looking for his maroon SUV when a deputy spotted it in the parking area of the substation.

According to San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, authorities suspect Chunli acted alone. The reason for the shooting spree was not immediately apparent.

The shootings took place at two agricultural complexes on the city’s outskirts. According to Corpus, Zhao is thought to have worked for one of the companies. 

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President, Dave Pine, described him as a “disgruntled worker.”

The motivation for the shootings is unknown, according to authorities. However, during a news conference Thursday evening, Sheriff Christina Corpus stated that the suspect is thought to have worked at one of the nursery farm locations.

San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies arrived at about 2:22 pm at a mushroom farm near the Spanish Town stores in the 12700 block of San Mateo Road.

Corpus believes the victims are workers on the sites. According to Half Moon Bay Councilmember Debbie Ruddock, the victims are Chinese farm workers.

A family reunion center was established at IDES Hall, 735 Main St. in Half Moon Bay.

The FBI of San Francisco is aiding the Sheriff’s Office of San Mateo County by providing investigation and forensic resources. The Sheriff’s Office is said to be the principal investigative agency.

The Holy Family Children’s Center was placed on lockdown around 3:20 pm, according to ABC7.

According to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, President Biden has been briefed on the shootings.

He urged federal law enforcement to help local authorities as needed. Jean-Pierre stated that the President would be kept up to date when new information becomes available.

According to the sheriff’s office, a weapon was discovered in Zhao’s vehicle. They added that he is believed to have acted alone and that there is no further threat to the community.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for this town and the many families affected by this heinous act of violence,” said San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus.
