Betty Boothroyd: Family And Net Worth Before Death

Betty Boothroyd was born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Her parents were textile workers, and she grew up in a working-class family.

In terms of her net worth, it was estimated to be around 5 million USD before her death.

Betty was the youngest of three children and had two older brothers. Boothroyd married in 1958, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1968.

In terms of her ethnicity, Boothroyd was of mixed heritage. Her father was of Irish descent, while her mother was of English and Armenian ancestry.

Financial difficulties marked Boothroyd’s upbringing; she had to leave school at 16 to start working.

Despite this, she could continue her education in evening classes and eventually became a secretary for the Labour Party.

Throughout her political career, Boothroyd was known for advocating social justice and equality, particularly for women and minorities.

Betty Boothroyd: Funeral And Obituaries

Last month, Lady Boothroyd, who was a former Labour MP, passed away at the age of 93.

She made history in 1992 by becoming the first woman to be elected speaker, breaking a centuries-old tradition. She remained in the position until 2000.

On Wednesday, her funeral was held in Thriplow, Cambridge, with attendees including Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir.

Sunak led tributes and was joined by the prime minister and opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer.

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab also paid tribute to Lady Boothroyd, saying she was one of the greatest speakers, and offered condolences to her family. 

The former Labour MP, who passed away last month at 93, was the only female Speaker of the House of Commons and was described as “remarkable” by Sunak.

At the funeral, four pallbearers carried the coffin into St George’s Church while organ music played in the background.

The prime minister praised her service to Parliament, saying it made it taller. Mourners came together to pay their respects at her funeral.
