On Friday morning, Mr. Modi tweeted that God is the source of a glorious century. Heeraben, who lived in Gandhinagar in western Gujarat, lit the funeral pyre for his mother on Friday.
Heeraben’s health had worsened, and she had been brought into the hospital on Wednesday. When there were significant occasions or festivals, the Indian prime minister frequently visited his mother to ask for her blessing.
When Mr. Modi visited her home on December 4 during the assembly election in Gujarat, his home state, they were last spotted together in public. Heeraben resided with the family of Mr. Modi’s younger brother.

On social media, several politicians and ministers posted condolences for Heeraban’s passing. Rajnath Singh, the defense minister, tweeted that the news had caused him great pain.

However, Heeraben passed away on December 30 after spending the past few days in the UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad due to health issues.
Where Was Heeraben Modi From?
Heeraben was born in 1923 in Visnagar, in the Mehsana district of Gujarat. She had a childhood marked by hardship, Mr. Modi revealed.
Heeraben married Damodardas Mulchand Modi when she was a teenager and relocated to the nearby town of Vadnagar. In his blog, Mr. Modi described how his family lived in a small home without a window and much fewer luxuries like a toilet or bathroom.
He characterized his mother as punctual, orderly, and diligent. She would hum her favorite hymns and bhajans, he said.

Heeraben never attended public events, Mr. Modi claimed in his letter, adding that she had only ever accompanied him to two occasions—the second being his swearing-in ceremony as Gujarat’s chief minister in 2001.
