In February 2007, at the age of 43, Kotb received a breast cancer diagnosis after a routine inspection revealed lumps in her breast tissue.

Tamoxifen, a medication that stops estrogen from promoting the growth of cancer cells, was also administered to her along with a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

Following her diagnosis, Hoda shared, “Cancer did not define me; it only shaped me. It’s just a part of me, but not all part of me” at the annual Breast Cancer Research Foundation Awards Luncheon and New York Symposium in 2017.

Although Kotb has since spoken about her infertility issues due to her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, she is currently cancer-free.
