Born in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Kim Petras was raised in a family of artists and creatives.

Her mother was a choreographer and artist, her Father an architect, and her older sister a singer.

From age two, Kim Petras stated that she was aware she was a girl and desperately sought to have her identity acknowledged.

In 2006, 13-year-old Kim Petras was featured on a German television current affairs program where she shared her experiences of medical gender transition.

At 14, Kim Petras was the subject of a documentary and a talk show appearance as she attempted to secure permission for *** reassignment surgery at 16, before the minimum age requirement of 18 in Germany.

Kim Petras’ transition was brought to the world’s attention through her appearances on the documentary and talk show, leading to her being referred to as the world’s youngest transsexual.

In September 2007, Kim Petras modeled for a German hair salon chain.

She was assessed by the head of the psychiatric unit at Frankfurt Hospital, Dr. Bernd Meyenburg, and cleared for gender confirmation surgery at 16.

In November 2008, she announced that the surgery had been successful.

Petras stated that the surgery had simply confirmed what she had always known – that she was a woman trapped in the wrong body.

Petras stated in an interview with BuzzFeed that the first song she ever composed was about a second-grade boy who was not interested in her.

With her roots in Germany, singer and songwriter Ms. Petras has made a name for herself in the music scene of Los Angeles, California, where she currently resides.

Born on August 27, 1992, she continues to captivate audiences with her unique sound.

From 2016 to 2020, Kim Petras independently released her music under BunHead Records.

In 2021, she signed with Amigo and Republic Records, further boosting her music career.

As a teenager, Kim Petras discovered her love for music and began recording. In 2017, she made her debut with the international single “I Don’t Want It at All,” which she released independently.

Following the release of her debut single, Kim Petras continued to make waves with songs like “Feeling of Falling,” “Heart to Break,” and “1, 2, 3 Dayz Up”, which all charted on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

In 2021, Kim Petras signed with Republic Records and continued her musical journey with the release of the EP Slut Pop, her first project with the label, in the next year.

Kim Petras made history in 2022 with her collaborative single “Unholy” with Sam Smith, which reached number one on charts worldwide, including the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100.

In recognition of her musical talent, Kim Petras was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Unholy.”

This made her the first openly transgender woman to win this prestigious award.
