According to event organizers, a 51-year-old man passed away while competing in the Ironman Wisconsin triathlon over the weekend.

According to a GoFundMe account that started to raise money for his wife and children, the victim was identified as Dax Bakken, a military veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm and was the father of three children.
IRONMAN Wisconsin officials said that Bakken passed out during the bike leg of the event in the hamlet of Cross Plains.
He received medical assistance from a race staff member and an off-duty police officer before being taken to a nearby hospital by EMS, where he was later declared dead by a race spokesman.
