While growing up in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the basketball player relied on his faith in God to pursue his dreams. Although it is a relatively small island nation, his hometown has a big-city feel.

Similarly, Horford was also a sports-crazed and competition-fueled city kid passionate about sports. As a little child, he played various games, including baseball, volleyball, ran track and basketball (like his Father).

His dad is a former NBA player. Even with familial pedigree, Al felt his dream to be an NBA player unlikely. But his mother’s vision for his life overlooked the obstacles before him. He began involving in basketball.

Al Horford made his basketball debut in 2007. Atlanta Hawks drafted him in the third overall selection in the 2007 Draft. As a rookie for the Atlanta Hawks, Horford started every game he appeared in.

He rose the ranks by being selected to the All-Star squad at 23 and 24 years old. The 66-game 2011–12 season ended Horford’s progress the following year.

Al Horford was in Puerto Plata, Dominican Rupublic, on 3 June 1986. He is the son of the former NBA player Tito Horford and Arelis Reynoso. He has four brothers – Jon Horford, Josh Horford, Anna Horford, and Maria Horford.

His brother, Jon, played in Michigan and Florida. The power forward also has two sisters.

Al Horford’s nationality is Dominican. His ethnicity is unclear. But reports say most of the population in his home country are of mixed Ethnicity (African and European).

Tito Horford, who played 63 games with the Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Bullets between 1988 and 1993, was the first player of Dominican descent to play in the NBA (he spent three of those years playing in France, Italy and Brazil).

In 2000, the Horford family relocated to Lansing, Michigan. Al went to Grand Ledge High School and was a star basketball player.
