Is Bob Huggins Christian? Many questions continue to swirl around the former West Virginia head coach’s personal life as he resigned and announced his retirement on Sunday.

The unexpected retirement came after Huggins was arrested and charged with DUI in Pittsburgh.

Bob Huggins, aka Huggy Bear, is a former college basketball coach and former basketball player of American nationality.

With his career spanning five decades, the Morgantown native has served as head coach for several famous teams, including Walsh, Akron, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and most recently, West Virginia.

The 2022 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee is the 6th men’s collegiate basketball coach with over 900 career victories. In addition, the former Kansas State coach has been to a total of 24 NCAA tournaments.

Bob Huggins is a devout follower of Christianity. The former West Virginia coach holds and practices his faith in high regard.

Huggins has often discussed his faith in interviews. According to RC Online, the renowned basketball coach said he is a Christian and believes in God. Bob believes that God has a plan for his existence and endeavors to live according to that plan.

Likewise, in a 2010 interview, the former West Virginia head coach stated that his faith is essential to him. Bob added his faith has helped him endure many difficult circumstances and aided him in maintaining perspective.

Nonetheless, Huggins practices Christianity.

Bob Huggins Called Xavier Fans Catholic F–s

During a radio show appearance in May 2023, Bob Huggins used a homophobic slur in reference to Xavier University’s fans.

Before claiming that they threw rubber penises onto the court during Crosstown Shootout, the former West Virginia head coach called fans of Xavier “Catholic f–s.”

Following the incident, West Virginia University suspended and reduced Bob Huggins’ salary for the 2023-2024 season.

Huggins’ salary was reduced by $1 million. West Virginia University stated that the money would go to the school’s LGBTQ+ center, the Carruth Center, and other organizations supporting marginalized individuals.

Bob was suspended for the first three games of the current season. Later, the 60-year-old apologized, expressed his regret and said there was no excuse for his hurtful words.

Huggins’ multiyear contract was changed to a year-to-year arrangement, and he was also told to participate in sensitivity training.

Bob Huggins Family And Ethnicity

Bob Huggins was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, United States, on 21 September 1953. He grew up with his parents, Norma and Charles Huggins.

His family moved to Port Washington, Ohio, when he was young. His father was also involved in basketball and was a high school basketball coach.

Bob played under his father’s coaching at Indian Valley South High School. It looks like Bob’s mom and dad were highly supportive of his career. Huggins’ siblings include his brother Larry Huggins and Harry Huggins.

Talking about his ethnicity, it is unclear where his parents are from. The information about his origin and heritage is yet to be made public.

His other family members include his wife and children. Bob Huggins shares a blissful marital life with his wife, June Huggins. The couple tied the knot in 1977.
