Marilyn (Wiley) and Dan Sinema welcomed Sinema into the world on July 12, 1976, in Tucson, Arizona. Sinema has a younger sister and an elder brother.
Her father worked as a lawyer. When she was a little child, her parents got divorced, and her mother, who was given custody of the kids, remarried.
Sinema relocated to DeFuniak Springs, Florida, a small town in the Panhandle, with her brothers, mother, and stepfather.
The family spent three years living in an abandoned gas station after her stepfather lost his job and the bank seized their home.
According to Sinema, they lived there without a bathroom or electricity for two years.
Sinema was brought up as a Latter-day Saints member. She received her B.A. from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1995 at the age of 18, having graduated as valedictorian from Walton High School in DeFuniak Springs at the age of 16.
