American-born Puerto Rican former professional boxer Prichard Colon is an honorary WBC World Champion and gold medalist at the 2010 Panamerican Youth Championship in the 64 kg (141 pounds) category.

The Puerto Rican boxer began his professional boxing debut on February 23, 2013, fighting against Xavier La Salle at the Cosme Beitía Salamo Coliseum in Cataño, Puerto Rico.

During his amateur career, the former boxer gained fame for winning five national championships in both the 141 and 152-pound divisions.

After his win, Colón decided to become a professional fighter. He ended his amateur career with 17-0–0 in 2012.

The Puerto Rican welterweight, who has been in a coma since suffering a traumatic brain injury during an October 17 loss, underwent surgery last week and is expected to undergo another one this week, his family announced.

Reports indicated Colon was in a coma following the operation, citing family members’ updates from the hospital. It’s unclear if injuries medically induced the coma.

Prichard left the Tyrell fight after being disqualified in the 10th round; he collapsed in the dressing room and remained in a coma for 221 days due to a brain bleed.

Prichard Colon Hospital And Surgery Update

Following the incident, Colon collapsed in the dressing room shortly after the foul-filled fight and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure inside his skull.

The authorities did not disclose the specifics of Colon’s operation last week and the one scheduled for this week, but he has had multiple surgeries since being injured.

The former boxer is now awake and in a stable, vegetative condition that is steadily improving.

According to Washington Post, Boxer Prichard was taken to Inova Fairfax hospital after experiencing dizziness and vomiting in the dressing room.

Multiple reports claimed Prichard underwent surgery for bleeding on the brain due to his bout against Terrel Williams.

During the fight, the boxer complained to Cooper about getting hit with punches to the back of his head.

Espn claims Pritchard moved Colon to Shepherd Center, an Atlanta hospital specializing in treatment for those with brain and spinal cord injuries.

In late February, Colon had spinal surgery so a catheter could be implanted to administer a drug to help loosen his muscles. 

The WBC champion was fighting on the undercard of Lamont Peterson’s majority decision victory over Felix Diaz at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax.

The previously undefeated Puerto Rican was disqualified before starting the 10th and final round, resulting in the 154-pounder’s first loss.

Colon’s corner began removing his gloves after the ninth round, unaware that the fight had not ended.
