One of the most successful R&B artists since the mid-1980s, Robert Sylvester Kelly, commonly known by his name R Kelly is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer.
He was convicted of eight counts of sex trafficking and racketeering in a New York courtroom. He was sentenced to prison later. Read the article to know the complete details of the case.
When Did R. Kelly Get Arrested?
R Kelly is facing multiple sex offenses starting in 1994 when Kelly was 27; he married 15 years old singer Aaliyah.
The marriage was later declared invalid when vibe magazine discovered Aaliyah had lied about her age on the wedding certificate.
A former tour manager testified that Kelly bribed a government worker to obtain a fake ID for Aaliyah to marry her.
In 1996 Tiffany Hawkins sued R Kelly for the “personal injuries and emotional distress” she had during a three relationship with him. Later the case was settled for $250,000.
In 2001 Tracy Sampson also sued R. Kelly, accusing him of inducing her “into an indecent sexual relationship” when she was 17.
Sampson and a former Epic Records intern said they were treated as his personal sex object and cast aside.
Patrice Jones sued R. Kelly in 2001, claiming he impregnated her when she was underage and that she was forced to have an abortion.
Montina Woods sued Kelly, claiming that he had filmed them having sex without her knowledge.
Both cases were settled out of court, undisclosed sums in return for non-disclosure agreements.
In June 2002, He was charged with 21 counts of making child sexual abuse videos involving various sexual acts.
After six years, the case came to trial, but Kelly was not found guilty when the jury concluded they could not prove that the girl on the tape was a minor.
In 2004 Kelly was charged and arrested with a further 12 counts of producing child sexual abuse images from his holiday home in Florida.
In 2017 he was accused of trapping six women in a sex “cult.” He seduced young women when they approached him for help with their music careers before taking control of their lives.
In July 2019, Kelly was arrested on federal charges in Chicago with ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Later an additional 11 charges of sexual assault and abuse against a minor aged between 13 and 16 were filed.
Kelly was hit with three separate federal indictments in Illinois, Minnesota, and Brooklyn.

Kelly’s trial began on August 18 in New York. A month later, on September 27, the jury found R.
Kelly is guilty of a total of nine counts of sexual exploitation of children, racketeering predicated on criminal conduct, forced labor, and Mann Act Violations, including girls trafficking in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity.
On June 29, 2022, Singer R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison by United States District Judge Ann M. Donnelly.

She said the singer had an “indifference to human suffering” and had used sex as a weapon, forcing his victims to do unspeakable things while saddling some with sexually transmitted diseases.
