During the press release, 42-year-old Ardern said she hoped she would find what she needed to carry on during her tenure.

However, Jacinda told the reporters that she would be doing a disservice to her country New Zealand if she continued.

Ardern was the world’s youngest female head of government when she was elected the prime minister of New Zealand in 2017, aged 37.

Though she led the Labour party to a massive election victory in 2020, her domestic popularity recently declined, as opinion polls suggested.

Jacinda Ardern was born in Hamilton, New Zealand, on July 26, 1980, to Ross and Laurell Ardern.

Her father worked as a police officer, and her mother worked as a school catering assistant.

Growing up in Morrinsville and Murupara, Jacinda was raised in the Church of LSD (Latter-day Saints).

She enrolled at Morrinsville College in Morrinsville, Waikato, New Zealand, and was the student representative on the board of trustees.

While still at school, she found her first job at a local fish-and-chip shop.
