Harris is survived by a five-year-old son, Kaine. She was remembered as a beautiful soul by her family and friends.
Her mother, DeCarla Cotton, said that Jamea was trying to enjoy the weekend with her cousin, a University of Alabama student.

Upon being informed of a shooting, Tuscaloosa police and the University of Alabama police were dispatched at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, January 15.
The police vehicle was moving towards the Walk of the Champions at the Bryant Denny Stadium when a car stopped upon sighting the police vehicle.
According to the police, the driver told them their car had been struck by gunfire, and he returned fire in self-defense.
The driver also said that he might have shot a suspect. However, Jamea was already dead inside the vehicle.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Capt. Jack Kennedy said a suspect was struck by gunfire and had a non-life-threatening wound.
He said the shooting was due to a minor argument between the suspects and the victims.
The shooting occurred at 400 Block of Grace Street off University Boulevard. After speaking with witnesses, police were able to identify two suspects.
They were later able to apprehend the two suspects. One is a University of Alabama basketball player, Darius Miles, and the other is Michael Lynn Davis.

Darius Miles, Basketball Player Arrested For Murder
University of Alabama basketball player Darius Miles was one of two suspects who were arrested earlier for the killing of Jamea Harris.
Miles is an Alabama Crimson Tides forward who wears the #2 and stands at 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) and 185 lb (84 kg).
He is from Washington, D.C., and completed his high school at Theodore Roosevelt High School in his hometown.
On Saturday, January 14, the University of Alabama announced that Miles would miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
His bio had already been removed from the college website, and a statement from the university stated that he had been removed from the campus.
The statement shared their grief of the incident and extended their condolences to the victim, her family, and friends.
A video of Miles getting arrested was released, and he can be seen saying, “I love you more than you can imagine” to someone.
The last time Miles played for the Crimson Tide team was on December 20, 2022, when he scored two points in their 84-64 win over Jackson State.
