As reported in Iowa court records, the charge involves Iowa State and Iowa State athletes.
According to court documents, Dekkers teaming with his parents allegedly devised a scheme to conceal his identity and manipulate online transactions.
This activity occurred while Dekkers was 20 years old, which is illegal in Iowa, as the legal age for gambling is 21.
He is accused of placing 366 mobile or online bets from his phone, totaling over $2,799, with 297 bets placed when he was under 21.
Among these wagers, 26 were placed on Iowa State University sporting events, including one on the 2021 Iowa State football game against Oklahoma State.
Dekkers’ charges for tampering with records are considered an aggravated misdemeanor in Iowa, carrying a potential sentence of up to two years in prison.
The alleged offense date is November 7, 2021, one day after the Cyclones played Texas when Dekkers would have been 20 years old.
Dekkers’ initial court appearance is scheduled for August 16 in Story County Court, and his attorney has stated that he will not participate in fall camp.
Additionally, two other Iowa State athletes, Paniro Johnson, and Dodge Sauser, are also charged with tampering with evidence in the same investigation.
Former Iowa State defensive lineman Eyi Uwazurike, a 2022 Denver Broncos draft pick, has also been charged with a similar offense.
He was accused of betting on NFL games during the 2022 season while he was in Ames.
