Jarrell David Harris, 27, was sentenced to 13 years in D.C. after killing Sedrick Miller in front of his kids. 

David Harris was taken into custody by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on May 6, 2022, by an arrest warrant issued by the D.C. Superior Court.

Miller was shot eleven times by Jarell Harris, according to the prosecution.

Investigators discovered that on March 4, as Sedrick Miller, 42, walked down the street holding the hands of his 5-year-old and a 6-month-old in a car seat, a man came up behind them and opened Fire several times.

Jarell Harris, also Jarrell Harris, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the ******** ***** of 42-year-old Sedrick Miller in 2022 in the court document.

After entering a guilty plea, he was given 13 years in prison on January 25, 2023, in Northeast Washington.

In a plea agreement, Harris admitted ******** the victim almost a dozen times after confronting him in the 2300 block of 18th Street NE.

Miller was shot eleven times, according to the autopsy, five times in the thorax, four times in the face and neck, once in the upper right limb and once in the upper left limb.

After making his getaway in a car and becoming a wanted man, Harris was finally apprehended a little over two months later on one count of voluntary armed manslaughter.

Miller’s ****** was described as “one of the awful things we’ve had here in the Fifth District in some years” by D.C. Police Cmdr. William Fitzgerald.

Before killing Miller, Harris had a “substantial criminal past,” according to court records.

His criminal history included convictions for assault, robbery, and unauthorized handgun possession in D.C. and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Not to mention, Harris expressed regret for his acts and a desire to protect Miller’s children from the stress of a trial as he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

In this case, the defendant’s conduct is tragic not only because it resulted in Sedrick Miller’s *****, which had a significant impact on his family.

Additionally, according to the prosecution’s memo detailing the sentencing, they caused the traumatization of (his) children.

Miller was jailed after his arrest on May 6, 2022, and is still there.

U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Contee praised the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department investigators in announcing the sentencing.

They also expressed gratitude for the efforts of Jennifer Clark and Latrice Washington-Williams, victim/witness advocates who worked on the case at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Finally, they expressed gratitude for the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Prava Palacharla, who looked into the case and handled the prosecution.
