Joe Root To Feature In 2023 IPL Edition

Joe Root, a former skipper of England, will debut in the IPL in 2023 with the Rajasthan Royals.

Although he was not included in the starting XI in the opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Root is expected to make his first appearance against Punjab Kings later tonight.

With the impact rule added in this edition of the IPL, Root’s chances of having more game time increase significantly.

For the first time since the league’s first season in 2008, Rajasthan Royals made it to the IPL championship in 2022.

But as the competition continued, it became clear that they lacked all-around players. And with the impact rule in place, Root can be a crucial player on the team.

Since the beginning of 2022, Root has struck with a strike rate of 66 in Test cricket and 92 in ODIs, faster than his previous strike rates of 55 and 87.

This is his first IPL contract; he was never a highly sought-after Twenty20 batsman, but he makes more runs now than at any other time in his career.

Furthermore, Root’s ability to dominate spin, of which there is little question, will likely become crucial to Rajasthan’s cause as the league advances and the wickets “age.”

Additionally, he bowls sparingly in the format but rivals Holder’s economy with his useful off-breaks.
