Surprisingly, there is a lot in common between the two. While Madden is a renowned NFL figure and Candy is a famous Actor, they have had a fair share of experience in each other’s fields.

Madden was featured in the 1994 family sports comedy film Little Giants. He also played himself in another sports comedy film, The Replacements, alongside his broadcast partner Pat Summerall.

Similarly, Candy was into sports – specifically football. As a kid, he wanted to become a football player but changed his plans after a knee injury.

John attended Catholic parochial school with the football coach and former football player John Robinson at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, graduating in 1950. Afterward, he went to Jefferson High School, graduating in 1954.

He met Virginia Fields while in a bar in Pismo Beach, California. The two married on December 26, 1959, and lived in Pleasanton, California.

The couple had two sons, Joseph and Michael. The Madden boys followed in their dad’s footsteps.

Joseph/ Joe played football at Brown University, whereas Michael/ Mike did the same at Harvard University.

John and Virginia had celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary only two days before his death.

On December 28, 2021, John died of undisclosed causes at his Pleasanton, California, home. Born on April 10, 1936, he was 85 at death.

John Franklin Candy was born in Toronto and grew up in Newmarket, Ontario. He was the son of Sidney James Candy (1920–1955) and Evangeline Aker Candy (1916–2009).

John grew up in a working-class Catholic family. Unfortunately, his Father, Sidney, died of heart complications at age 35 when John was only five.

He studied at Neil McNeil Catholic High School in Toronto. Although he initially aspired to become a footballer for the Toronto Argonauts, a knee injury prevented him from pursuing the sport.

Later, he studied journalism at Centennial College and then attended McMaster University. John began acting while at college.

John Candy married his wife, Rosemary Hobor, in 1979, and the couple had two children, Christopher Michael and Jennifer Anne.

On March 4, 1994, Candy passed away while filming Wagons East. A spokeswoman stated the cause of his death was a heart attack during sleep. Born on October 31, 1950, he was only 43.

He was known to have an unhealthy lifestyle. He tended to binge eat, smoke, drink, and take cocaine. He also had a strong family history, with his dad passing away prematurely from a heart attack.

Although John later tried to maintain his weight and improve his health, it was too late, and he succumbed to an early death.
