John Regala, whose real name is John Paul Guido Boucher Scherrer, was an actor, environmentalist, and Christian minister.
He gained wider recognition in the film industry as a member of the 1986 television show That’s Entertainment. The Manila-born performer portrayed several well-known roles in action movies and television series in the 1990s.
Along with other action actors like Robin Padilla and the late Ace Vergel, he was unofficially referred to as the “Bad Boy” of Philippine action movies.
John Regala was nominated for the Gawad Urian Awards’ “Best Supporting Actor” award. Additionally, for his performance in “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story,” he was named Best Supporting Actor at the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival.

Veteran Filipino actor John Regala died on 3 June 2023. He was 58 years old. He reportedly passed away due to cardiac arrest caused by other health issues related to the liver and kidney.
Aster Amoyo, a showbiz journalist and talent manager, broke the sad news in a Facebook post, writing that Regala died after 6 am on Saturday.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, the actor’s wife, Victoria Scherrer, also confirmed the tragic news.
The “Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story” actor had been suffering from serious illnesses, liver cirrhosis, gout, and diabetes, for a long time.
He was first hospitalized in August 2020 due to liver cirrhosis. Since then, his health has been worsening.
Moreover, the mourning spouse of the late performer further revealed that his condition was critical and was in ICU at a Quezon City hospital for the last three weeks.
His wife thanked the Iglesia ni Cristo group for supporting Regala throughout his terminal illness. The devastated wife of the actor also expressed her gratitude to John Regala’s colleagues, friends who helped him.
According to the reports, Regala’s family is still completing plans for the actor’s wake at St. Peter Chapels in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

John Regala Hails From A Family Of Actors
John Regala’s parents, Mel Francisco and Ruby Regala were prominent figures in the Filipino entertainment industry. While his father was a character actor, his mother was also an actress.
Both of his parents have passed away. Furthermore, John was born on 28 May 1965 in Manila, Phillippines. Growing up, his mom and dad’s career influenced him significantly.
Regala began his career when he was 20 years old. The “That’s Entertainment” star gained significant fame from the start of his career.
However, John’s extensive drug addiction brought a break to his acting career. He later attended a drug rehab facility, converted to Christianity, and subsequently began serving as a Christian minister.
After a while, he decided to join the Iglesia ni Cristo. Later, he joined the Members Church of God International, but in 2015, he returned to the Iglesia ni Cristo.
As president and CEO of Project Green Evolution Inc., which makes the Water Bonsai Organic Root Grower, Regala also developed into an environmentalist.
In 2016, his final television appearance was in the police drama, “Ang Probinsyano,” where he portrayed the character Coco Martin.
