According to reports, Masvidal, who had recently lost to Colby Covington at UFC 272, was allegedly accused of assaulting Covington on March 22, 2022.
Masvidal is accused of running up on Covington as he was leaving a restaurant and striking him twice, breaking one of Covington’s teeth and injuring his wrist.
A day after the incident, Masvidal was detained and charged with one count of criminal mischief and aggravated battery resulting in grave bodily harm.
At the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility, Masvidal was arrested by Miami County Police on a $15,000 bond and released on conditional release.
Masvidal initially had an arraignment date of April 21, 2022, but he later entered a plea of not guilty to the allegations.
The state attorney’s office requested a continuance, granted on April 21, 2022, and will now last until April 28.
Following allegations that Covington had sustained a brain injury due to the alleged ******, Masvidal was given a stay-away order on April 28, and the charges for aggravated battery were revised.
A pre-trial hearing and trial were scheduled for August 17 and August 29, 2022, respectively, at the status hearing on May 12.
Due to joint continuances, the hearings and trials were delayed again to mid-November and mid-February 2023.
