The authorities arrested three individuals in Arvada suspected to be involved in the recent rock-throwing attacks that resulted in the death of Alexa Bartell, a 20-year-old woman, and injured others.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak, were taken into custody from their respective homes.
According to Jacki Kelley, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the arrest has made the community safer.
All three suspects are 18-year-old high school seniors, one attending Ralston Valley High School, another at Standley Lake High School, and the third enrolled in an online school.

Joseph Koenig was arrested due to the recent rock-throwing attacks that killed Alexa Bartell.
Alexa Bartell, a resident of Arvada, lost her life on the night of April 19 while driving on Indiana Street near the county line between Jefferson and Boulder counties.
A large rock hit her windshield, causing her to veer off the road and into a field. Bartell talked to a friend when the incident occurred, and the line went dead.
Two other individuals were injured in rock attacks earlier that night, and large landscaping rocks hit seven vehicles. The suspects, believed to have been in a moving vehicle, went on a spree of throwing rocks through the windshields of parked cars.

According to Jacki Kelley, spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, such incidents had never been reported before.

Joseph Koenig, along with two other suspects, was charged with the death of Alexa Bartell.
All three suspects are accused of throwing rocks that night and facing charges of first-degree murder with extreme indifference.
This means they are being charged with intentionally engaging in an act that poses a high risk of death to others without regard for human life. In addition to these charges, authorities have indicated that additional charges may be filed against the suspects.
The attacks have caused significant outrage and anger among the victims and their families. Nathan Tipton, one of the other victims of the attacks, expressed his anger at the suspects.

He stated that he had “a lot of anger that they would do this” and “a lot of anger that they took somebody’s life.”
What Happened During The Attack?
On the night of the crime spree, the first attack happened around 10 pm at an intersection in Westminster, just north of Standley Lake.
The final attack, which resulted in the death of Alexa Bartell, occurred about 2 miles away and 45 minutes later. According to investigators, the suspects were traveling in a black 2016 Chevy Silverado, but it is unclear which suspect was driving the vehicle.
The arrests of Joseph Koenig, Nicholas Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak were made possible through the use of cellphone device forensics and tips from the public, totaling over 300.
While the exact nature of the forensic evidence was not disclosed, Jacki Kelley, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, stated that the information led them directly to the suspects.
