On July 15, 2023, Justyn Vicky faced a tragic accident while lifting a 210-kilogram barbell during a back squat exercise at The Paradise Bali gym.

Despite assistance from a partner and a colleague, fatigue set in, causing the barbell to roll to the floor.

The impact on the back of Vicky’s neck and shoulders resulted in unconsciousness and a broken neck, leading to critical pressure on vital nerves connected to his heart and lungs.

Rushed to Siloam Hospitals and later transferred to Wangaya Regional General Hospital in Denpasar, Bali, Vicky underwent surgery on July 16.

Despite efforts to save him, he slipped into a coma and passed away at the age of 33.

His family, including his mother, son, and ex-wife, remained by his side during this challenging time.

Vicky’s death underscored the dangers associated with intense weightlifting, a video of which circulated on social media, prompting discussions about safety in high-risk exercises.
