Kai Sotto is a Filipino basketball player known for being tall (7’2″). He currently plays for Hiroshima Dragonflies in the Japanese B.League.

The 21-year-old has represented the Phillippines National Basketball team at senior and youth levels.

Kai Sotto Scandal- Leaked Video Viral On The Internet

The Kai Sotto scandal and his leaked video have been viral online. However, the video is not as wrong or scandalous as many would expect. 

Leaked footage from 2020 showed Sotto and Jalen Green, both 18 at that time, dominating their games in the NBA G League.

In the video, the two basketball prodigies were seen having fun in their games in the developmental league.

Jalen Green got drafted 2nd overall by Houston Rockers at the 2021 NBA Draft.

However, Sotto was ineligible for the 2021 NBA Draft because he recently graduated from high school the same year and would only be able to join in 2022.

After declaring for the 2022 NBA Draft, Sotto worked with several teams, yet, he was undrafted.

Kai Sotto Basketball Career

Kai Sotto enrolled the Ateneo de Manila High School in April 2016 and joined the junior basketball program in Quezon City.

He led the Aterno team to a UAAP Basketball Championship title and was named the finals MVP, averaging 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 6.3 blocks per game.

Sotto averaged 25.1 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in the following season and was named the UAAP juniors MVP. 

In November 2019, he joined The Skill Factory, a preparatory program based in Atlanta, Georgia.

In his debut game the following year, Sotto scored 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 65-61 loss to IMG Academy.

On January 2020, Kai was named the MVP of the King Invitational tournament, averaging 27 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks.

He was a part of the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in February 2020 during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago.

The 21-year-old was considered a consensus four-star recruit by significant agencies in the United States. 

In May 2020, he joined the NBA G League Ignite, forgoing his college basketball eligibility.

After he could not join the 2021 NBA Draft, Sotto signed a contract with Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Basketball League.

In February 2023, Sotto announced that he would be leaving Adelaide 36ers and would sign for an overseas team.

The Filipino basketball player then signed with Hiroshima Dragonflies of the Japanese B.League.

Sotto’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and he plans to join the 2023 NBA Summer League.

Kai Sotto Family Background

Kai Sotto was born to Ervin Sotto and Pamela Sotto (née Perlado) in Las Piñas, Philippines, on May 11, 2002. He has two siblings.

Both of 7 ft 2 in tall Kai’s parents are tall; Ervin is 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m), and Pamela is 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m).

Sotto’s father, Ervin, is a former professional basketball player. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2004 PBA Draft by the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs. 

Ervin was known for shooting from outside the arc and played for teams such as Shell Turbo Chargers, Barangay Ginebra Kings, the Air21 Express, and Alaska Aces.

Kai’s godfather, Ranidel de Ocampo, played professional basketball for FedEx Express and the Phillippines National Basketball team.
