Kansas City Chiefs Coach Britt Reid was fired following his legal battles over a DWI incident that caused catastrophic injuries to a five-year-old girl.

Why Was Kansas City Chiefs Coach Britt Reid Fired?

Britt Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs coach, was fired over his 2021 DWI incident. Following his charge and arrest, his contract was not renewed after the 2020 campaign.

Britt was intoxicated when he crashed into two parked cars on February 4, 2021. He injured two young children near his team’s training complex at Arrowhead Stadium., only a few days before Super Bowl LV.

The OL coach told the officers that he had consumed two to three drinks earlier that evening and was on a prescription medication for ADHD called Adderall.

It was later discovered that Britt had a blood alcohol concentration of .113. The legal limit is .08.

Britt and a five-year-old passenger of another vehicle were both hospitalized. The latter was in critical condition, staying in a coma for ten days. 

Two months later, she was released from the hospital, still unable to walk, talk, or eat properly.

Britt was charged with a DWI on April 12, 2021, a D-Level felony crime with a seven-year maximum sentence. He entered a plea agreement in September 2022, entered a guilty plea, and received a three-year sentence on November 1, 2022.

On November 19, 2021, the Kansas City Chiefs announced to pay the five-year-old victim’s medical expenses and provide her and her family with long-term financial support.
